Disney fans have been waiting for them to bring back their classic musical animated style back on screen since Moana (2016) which has now been seven years since its initial release. Lately, with all the company’s lackluster stories, prioritizing their political agenda, or lifeless live action remakes, Disney’s reputation is at an all time low. Although I can’t deny some great exceptions in the 2010s like Wreck it Ralph (2012) and Zootopia (2016) and even Encanto (2021), I won’t lie that I’ve been losing hope in the company completely.

However, in the recent news, Disney Animations released previews of their next upcoming film Wish which is set to release later this year.

Film Synopsis:

Wish, formerly titled Foster, is an upcoming American animated musical film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. It is scheduled to be released on November 22, 2023 and will be the 62nd animated feature in the Disney Animated Canon. The film will be written by Jennifer Lee and directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn. Asha, a 17-year-old heroine who’s driven, incredibly smart and an optimist, a sharp-witted leader in the making who sees darkness that others do not. She’s navigating a Kingdom of Wishes, where wishes can literally come true. Asha makes an impassioned plea to the stars, wishing for guidance and help, and ends up bringing an actual star — a cosmic force that’s a literal ball of energy and communicates through pantomime — down from the sky.

Cast:

Ariana DeBose as Asha

Alan Tudyk as Valentino

Main Protagonist, Asha

Asha is the protagonist of Disney’s 2023 animated feature film, Wish. She is a 17-year-old princess from the Kingdom of Rosas who sees a darkness in her kingdom that no one else sees and whose impassioned plea brings down an actual star. Together with her pet goat, Valentino, they embark on an epic adventure among the stars through varius worlds. Asha is expected to join the Disney Princess franchise as the franchise’s Fourteen member.

As this film comes out during Disney’s 100th anniversary the fact that the plot is based on a wishing star, one of Disney’s most iconic symbols, it can easily be considered a celebration for the company’s centennial.

It’s also the first film since Moana (2016) to feature a Disney Princess with an animal sidekick and being a musical film since Encanto (2021).

Overall this film sounds super promising and with only nine months remaining before its release, we should expect to see more news and trailers about the film soon. I’ll keep updating this blog when more information comes!

Thank you so much for reading! Comment down below your thoughts on Wish and if you are excited to finally see another Disney Princess Musical Film.
